i haven’t been able to iron in a while due to my dirty iron. it leaves brown streaks on all my clothes. i have been a mess since i haven’t been able to iron! ok, who am i kidding…i hate to iron and this has been my excuse not to do it. but throwing my clothes in the dryer to de-wrinkle them can only go so far. do it’s time de-gunk my iron! i searched the internet and found quite a few methods. i decided on this one because it sounded easy and i had all the materials at home.

materials

  • one dirty iron
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 3-4 teaspoons hydrogen peroxide

directions

place your iron on wax paper…this process can be very messy and this helps with the clean up.

mix together the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl until it forms a paste.

rub the paste onto the iron with a sponge until all the gunk is gone. it might take a little elbow grease if your iron is really dirty like mine. the areas where there was more gunk built up i let the paste sit for about five minutes.

wipe iron with a clean damp cloth to remove all the paste. you may need to use toothpicks to clean out the steam holes.

the end result wasn’t perfect but it was much better than what i started with.
